About this trip

This short Uttarakhand loop suits a long weekend from Delhi or a first family trip to the hills. Haridwar, where the Ganga leaves the mountains, holds the evening Ganga aarti at Har ki Pauri and the Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples reached by ropeway. Rishikesh, 20 km upstream, is the self-styled yoga capital of the world, with the Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges, the Parmarth Niketan aarti at Triveni ghat, the ashram once visited by the Beatles, and white-water rafting on the Ganga from Shivpuri in season. Mussoorie, at about 2,000 m above Dehradun, is a British-era hill station with the Mall Road, Gun Hill ropeway, Camel's Back road, Lal Tibba viewpoint, Kempty Falls and the Company Garden. Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Dehradun or Delhi, to Haridwar

    Arrive and drive to Haridwar. Evening Ganga aarti at Har ki Pauri.

  2. Day 2: Haridwar to Rishikesh

    Mansa Devi by ropeway, then drive to Rishikesh: Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula, the Beatles ashram and the Triveni ghat aarti.

  3. Day 3: Rishikesh adventure

    Morning rafting from Shivpuri (Sep to Jun), or a yoga session and the Neer Garh waterfall; afternoon free at the cafes.

  4. Day 4: To Mussoorie

    Drive about three hours to Mussoorie via Dehradun. Evening on the Mall Road and the Gun Hill ropeway.
