About this trip

The North-East has become one of the fastest-growing requests, and this loop covers its two most visited states. From Guwahati, where the Kamakhya temple overlooks the Brahmaputra, the road climbs to Shillong, Meghalaya's capital, with Umiam Lake on the way, the Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak. Cherrapunji (Sohra), among the wettest places on earth, has the Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall, the Mawsmai cave and the living root bridges grown by the Khasi people from rubber-tree roots, including the double-decker bridge at Nongriat for those up to a steep trek. Dawki's Umngot river is known for water so clear boats seem to float on air, with Mawlynnong, often called Asia's cleanest village, nearby. Back in Assam, Kaziranga National Park, a World Heritage Site, holds the largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros, seen on jeep and elephant safaris. Hotels, safaris and inclusions are set by the supplier and listed for confirmation.
