Kutch is the far-western district of Gujarat, and this short break pairs its old capital of Bhuj with the salt desert known as the White Rann. The journey is planned ex-Ahmedabad/Bhuj, so you can reach the start point by road or train from Surat and join the group there. You spend the first night in Bhuj, with time for the old town and the royal palace complex, and a day among the craft villages where embroidery, bandhani tie-dye and block printing are still made by hand. You then move to the winter tent settlement at Dhordo for two nights, so there is room for the Rann at sunset and again at sunrise rather than a rushed single visit. A drive to Kala Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, gives a wide view over the white flats. Evenings at the tent settlement usually include folk music and dance and a craft market, though the programme varies by year. Meet the group at Ahmedabad or Bhuj and travel to Bhuj, with the transfer timed to your arrival. Check in and take a relaxed evening walk, subject to time, around the old town. Overnight in Bhuj.
Visit the Aina Mahal area in Bhuj in the morning, then drive out to craft villages to see embroidery, bandhani and block printing being made. Continue to Dhordo and check in to your AC deluxe tent. Evening folk performance and market at the settlement, if running that night.
Drive to Kala Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, for a view across the Rann. Return to the settlement for lunch and free time, then go to the White Rann at sunset. Overnight in the tent settlement.
Go to the White Rann for sunrise if conditions allow, then have breakfast and check out. Transfer back to Bhuj or Ahmedabad for your onward train or road journey, with the drop timed to your connection.
