About this trip

This five-day Maldives stay is a simple beach holiday built around one resort island. In the Maldives most resorts occupy their own island, so the days are about the sea, the sand and the spa rather than sightseeing. You land at Velana International Airport on Hulhulé Island next to the capital, Malé, and continue to the resort by a transfer that depends on where the resort sits: resorts near the airport are usually reached by speedboat, while farther ones need a seaplane or a domestic flight. The three full days are left open on purpose. Typical choices are snorkelling on the reef, a swim in the lagoon, a spa session or a quiet dinner on the beach, with a sandbank trip and a sunset cruise as optional extras where the resort offers them. The northeast monsoon from about November to April is the sunnier period; the southwest monsoon from May to October brings more rain. Alcohol is available at resorts but cannot be brought in. Resort, room type, meal plan and the exact transfer are fixed by the supplier and confirmed before booking, so treat this as a framework that we then match to your budget and dates.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Malé and Resort Transfer

    Arrive at Velana International Airport and meet the resort or agency representative. Transfer to the resort by speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight plus boat, depending on the resort, and check in on arrival. The rest of the day is free to settle in.

  2. Day 2: Beach and Lagoon

    A free day on the island. Walk the beach, swim in the lagoon or try snorkelling from the shore if the resort has a reef nearby. Many resorts offer a spa; booking in advance is sensible.

  3. Day 3: Optional Excursions

    Choose from optional resort-run activities such as a snorkelling trip, a sandbank outing or a sunset cruise. Availability, rules and costs are set by the resort, so confirm on arrival. Otherwise it is a relaxed day on the island.

  4. Day 4: Free Day at the Resort

    Another unplanned day for beach, pool or water sports offered by the resort. Many couples use it for a special dinner on the beach or in the restaurant. Watch the sun and sea conditions on the day and follow the resort's advice on swimming.

  5. Day 5: Departure

    Check out in time for the transfer back to Velana International Airport; the timing depends on the type of transfer and your flight. Fly home.
