Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, then a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan past the great temples.
Egypt's monuments are spread along the Nile, and this itinerary follows the river. Two nights in Cairo cover the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one still standing, plus the museum collections and a walk in the old Islamic quarter around Khan el-Khalili. A flight south to Luxor begins a three-night cruise to Aswan, the standard way to see Upper Egypt: Karnak and Luxor temples on the east bank, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple on the west, then Edfu's Horus temple and Kom Ombo on the way to Aswan's High Dam and Philae temple. An optional early-morning drive from Aswan reaches Abu Simbel, the two rock temples moved uphill in the 1960s to escape the lake. Cruise boats, hotels and which tickets are included are set by the supplier and listed for confirmation.
